You’re Biggest Problem is Internet Addiction
When people say I procrastinate a lot, I’m just lazy, I’m sad, I feel socially awkward, I don’t wanna workout. I feel that all of these problems stem from only one source and that is Internet Addiction.
The Internet can be considered one of the greatest inventions of human beings but it’s literally changing our brains. Our brain wasn’t made to consume such large amounts of information every day. But we do.
We read a lot of articles, watch a lot of self-improvement videos, scroll on Instagram and all of these are new and large pieces of information. And our brain isn’t made to consume such large amounts of information and thus our minds are overstimulated.
And being overstimulated in the first place, we look for more stimulation to feel even more good which leads us to become even more stimulated and it just forms a cycle of overstimulation that we can never escape.
So, How do we stop? How do we stop overstimulating ourselves?
There are two solutions:
1. Dopamine Detox
Dopamine detox of the process of basically stopping using any kind of thing or stopping doing any kind of activities that would result in dopamine in your body.
But it’s an extreme solution and isn’t reasonable in a world where one can literally start a business from scratch on the internet.
If you want to do dopamine detox in a more reasonable and long-term manner. Read this article.
2. Digital Minimalism
Digital Minimalism simply means a mindful consumption of the Internet. How many times do you find yourself on YouTube or Instagram without any reason? You’re just being a mindless zombie addicted to the internet.
And thus by incorporating Digital Minimalism you only open the internet with a reason in mind. You don’t behave like a mindless zombie while consuming information.
And to learn about this, there is no better resource than the book itself. Read the book Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport and he would guide you on how to use the internet in a mindful manner.
