I’m Going on a Dopamine Detox and You Should Too

Do you know why you don’t need to pay for free social media services like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok? You’re wrong you pay for all the free social media sites. But you don’t pay via Money. You pay attention. The currency you pay is your Attention.

And you Probably think your attention isn’t worth much. But billion-dollar businesses are standing on your attention. Do you still think that social media is free and your attention is worthless?

But no matter how much I tell you or anyone tells you not to waste time scrolling on social media. You will. Because you’re fucking addicted. You’re addicted to the cheap dopamine and pleasure you get on these free sites.

So, here is the only solution to your problem: Dopamine Detox. Now, why Dopamine Detox? Dopamine is a good thing, right? It is a necessary hormone for us humans. So, Why do we need to Detox it?

To understand it, you first need to understand how dopamine levels work in our bodies. Our body has a baseline of dopamine, which is a neutral state for us. And if the dopamine levels increase from that baseline we experience happiness.

And if the baseline level drops we experience sadness. But because we have indulged in instant gratification activities in excess. Our baseline level of dopamine has been raised. And thus we don’t experience happiness from simple events in our life like watching sunsets or watching birds.

That which why we need Dopamine Detox. So, We can reduce our baseline levels of happiness to the lowest we can.

So, What are the rules of my Dopamine Detox?

I don’t want my Dopamine Detox to be a 24-hour thing. Because I know I can’t reverse the damage done to the Dopamine Circuit System in 24 hours. It’s like saying you ate junk food for 20 years of your life and you can fix the damage by dieting for one day. No. You fucking can’t.

So, I want this Dopamine Detox to be a lifestyle for me. So, the rules are a bit lenient:

  1. Only use Laptop for Work
  2. Use Social Media for only 1 hour a day
  3. Limit Youtube Watchtime to only 2 hours a day
  4. Go for a run every morning
  5. Add a 1 hour Boxing session every day
  6. Go to Gym every day
  7. Eat Clean
  8. Meditate Everyday
  9. Journal for Hours
  10. Read a Lot
  11. Listen to Music (But don’t watch music videos)

I think these rules are sufficient for a long-term dopamine detox. Let me give it a try and report back to you as to what happened. And if you are interested in this.
